About the Book
Martin Cheek Mosaic Artist is a visual inspiration sourcebook by internationally acclaimed mosaic and glass artist Martin Cheek. Written in response to requests from both newly-taught and established mosaic artists, it is full of invaluable expert advice about the creative process involved in making mosaics – from initial design to the finished work. As such, this book will also be of great interest, value and relevance to other artists working in different fields and mediums.
Many of the mosaics took several months to complete and have never been published before.
About the Author
Martin Cheek is a mosaic artist, tutor and author from Broadstairs, Kent.
Martin graduated in graphic design in 1981 before specializing in illustration and puppet animation and going on to set up his own film production company. For many years Martin was a part time lecturer at the Royal College of Art and an art critic for the Daily Express.
Martin has now worked as a professional mosaic artist for over 30 years and is regularly commissioned by both private and corporate clients as well as by museums. He regards his mosaic work as a logical progression from animation, both of which involve building a coherent whole, displaying character and movement, from thousands of elements. He also pioneered the technique of incorporating glass fusions into mosaic art, which add a unique textural interest not easily obtained using traditional mosaic materials.
Martin is a senior tutor at West Dean College and runs highly popular mosaic courses both in the UK and across the world.
This book is Martin’s seventh title on the art of mosaics.
