36-40 12mm tiles for a square coaster
Water-based glue like Aleene's Tacky Glue or Elmer's
Grout (optional) *

If you decide not to grout, it is helpful to paint your base with acrylic paint first so the tile stands out better visually. With most tile colors I recommend painting the base either black or white. Let the paint dry completely before moving on to Step 1.
Step 1: Arrange your tile within the design
Pour out all your tiles to access them easily.
Trace around your Coaster Base. Arrange your tiles within the outline. If grouting you want to leave a bit of space between the tiles. If not grouting, the tile can be as tight as you like.
Once you are happy with your design, pick up each tile and put some glue on the back of it and place it onto the wooden base.
When all of the tiles are glued down, leave your piece to sit for a few hours.
After a few hours turn your coaster over and glue on any tiles that have fallen off.
If you are not grouting, you are done!
